Assessment

The course follows a two-year linear programme, and it will be externally assessed by three written examination papers at the end of the second year. The total examination time is six hours. Pupils are also expected to carry out the 12 core practical experiments which will be internally assessed by teachers using common practical assessment criteria issued by the exam board. The outcome of practical assessment will appear on each pupil's certificates as a separately reported result. The overall qualification grade will be awarded based on the outcome of the written examinations only. The examinations will cover the theoretical content of the entire specification, as well as testing practical techniques and data analysis.
