Course summary

“Only people who have an acquaintance with the landmarks of change in past societies can plug themselves into debate and discussion about the modern world and its future.” The History Department seeks to encourage and develop open and enquiring minds and an appreciation that individual viewpoints can differ. To assist students to develop informed opinions and the ability to support them with reasoned arguments. To help students develop desirable personal qualities such as perseverance, initiative, and the ability to work independently and cooperatively. To stimulate curiosity about and interest in the past. To help students appreciate diversity and to value inheritance and to consider how far the past influences the present to develop problem solving methods, critical enquiry skills and communication skills. The course will appeal to students who have an interest in the way the world has developed through the ages; enjoy investigation, discovery, discussion and debate; want to improve their analytical skills and want to broaden Science or Language A Level studies
