Course summary
Sociology is the study of the development, structure, and functioning of human society. The course is suitable for students who have an interest in how society works; are interested in considering the application of contemporary examples from the real world to explore theoretical perspectives; and enjoy discussions about social behaviour and changes This course helps students to gain an understanding of the society in which we live. They learn how society shapes identities, consider an in-depth view of aspects of social behaviour and explanations of social change. Component 1 topics: Socialisation, Culture, Identity, Youth Subcultures within the UK. Component 2 topics: Social Inequality, Research Methodology. Component 3 topics: Globalisation and the Digital Social World, debates explored through a detailed study of Crime and Deviance.
