Course summary

At A level Geographers take a deeper look at many of the challenges facing the planet today. The course begins with a study of the concept of place, looking at areas from a range of perspectives. Students study Earth’s life support systems through investigations into carbon and water cycling. Pupils also study glaciation, human rights and migration. Later in the course, students explore contemporary geographical debates; looking at the geographies of health and a study of the geography of our oceans. We explore issues such as oil spills, coral reefs, plastic pollution, the global spread of disease and diseases of affluence. In the A level, there is a compulsory residential trip to the UK where we prepare for the NEA project. There is also the opportunity to sign up for the international field trip, which previously has gone to Iceland and the Azores.
