Course summary

Language learning at Advanced Level is a process which involves not only the introduction of new material in the form of topics and grammar, but also the constant consolidation of grammar in a range of contexts. It is this consolidation that enables language to become ‘embedded’. There is a focus on the production of written and spoken language and students are not only required to develop opinions about a range of issues, but must also be able to manipulate language skilfully in order to express these ideas clearly. This is where topics and grammar overlap with each other. During the course you will study technological and social changes, looking at diversity and the benefits it brings. You will study the highlights of French, German or Spanish artistic culture, including music and cinema, and will learn about political engagement and the influence of the past on the present day. You will study one film and one text (usually a play or a novel) in depth, although you will also be given the opportunity to watch films and read texts for pleasure
