Assessment

There are three components to the course: • Performance - a public performance of one or more pieces, performed as a recital. Grade 7 is the standard in the Edexcel specification for this course. • Composition - two compositions, one to a brief set by the exam board and another either free composition or also to a brief. Minimum of 6 minutes • Listening - 13 set pieces to study including vocal music, instrumental music, music for film, popular music and jazz, fusions and new directions. Written assessment In addition to the performance and composition elements, there is one written examination of just over 2 hours sat at the end of Year 13, relating to the set works. This exam includes exercises using audio files and two essay questions.
