Standard and Higher Level: External Assessment 80% Paper 1: Multiple-choice questions test knowledge of the core for SL pupils, plus the advanced (AHL) material for HL pupils. Paper 2: 40% for SL, 36% HL Standard Level Section A: short-answer and extended-response questions on core material. Higher Level: Section A: short-answer and extended-response questions on core and higher-level material. Paper 3: 25% for SL, 24% HL Standard Level Questions on core and SL option material. Higher Level: Questions on core, AHL and option material. Internal Assessment: 20% The internal assessment consists of one scientific investigation covering a topic that is commensurate with the level of the course. Pupil work is internally assessed by the teacher and externally moderated by the IBO. The group 4 project is a compulsory interdisciplinary activity for all science pupils. They work in groups to analyse a common topic or problem. This is a collaborative experience where the emphasis is on the processes involved in scientific investigation rather than the products of it.
