English Literature
Course summary
To study English Literature at A Level is to become familiar with some of the great, imaginative literary works of the recent and not-so-recent past; and it might be argued that to study English Literature is, in a sense, to study humanity. This course is perfect for students who enjoy reading independently and are confident discussing their ideas and interpretations of texts. This course enables pupils to not only learn to love reading for its own sake, but also improves their understanding of the great riches of the English language. Pupils will gain the confidence and competence to be able to interpret any literature which they might encounter in later life. Modules and studied texts include A Streetcar Named Desire, The Handmaid’s Tale, Frankenstein, Othello and a range of poetry.
