Chemistry is a great choice of subject for people who want a career in health and clinical professions, such as medicine, nursing, biochemistry, dentistry or forensic science. The A Level route is a two-year course. There are three examinations at the end of this two-year course, covering all content and the skills acquired from the 12 required practical elements. The following topics are covered: Physical chemistry, Atomic structure, amount of substance, bonding, energetics, kinetics, chemical equilibria, oxidation, reduction, thermodynamics, rate equations, acids and bases. Inorganic chemistry Periodicity, Group 2, Group 7, properties of Period 3 elements, transition metals, reactions of ions in aqueous solutions. Organic chemistry Introduction to organic chemistry, alkanes, alkenes, alcohols, organic analysis, optical isomerism, aldehydes and ketones.
