Religious Studies

Course summary

In A Level Religious Studies pupils are challenged to think about complex issues such as whether real knowledge is possible, whether acting in one’s self-interest is always wrong, and whether Jesus was really divine. Lessons are taught exclusively by specialists in all three papers in dedicated teaching rooms. We run a successful Senior Philosophy Society and an annual essay prize, and several boys have won Oxbridge Philosophy Essay Prizes in recent years. Over the two years of A Level, boys are taught to recognise strong arguments, to use scholarship to bolster their views, and to actively engage with independent reading – all fundamental skills for university and beyond. Past pupils have gone on to read subjects as diverse as Law, Medicine, Mathematics, as well as Theology and Philosophy.
