Course summary

The word ‘philosophy’ means literally ‘love of wisdom’. It is not a subject in its own right – it is always the philosophy of something, such as religion. In particular, the philosophy of religion examines the general philosophical problems about religion and God, while religious ethics evaluates how we decide what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’. The OCR GCE and Advanced GCE Philosophy of Religion and Religious Ethics specifications are designed to support a course of study suitable for students from any religious background (or none). These specifications build on the knowledge, understanding and skills that students may have developed through the study of GCSE Religious Studies; they do not, however, assume or require any previous study of the subject. It is important though, to have an interest in life and the questions it poses.
