Classical Civilisation

Course summary

Classical Civilisation offers pupils an exciting opportunity to investigate important issues still prevalent in modern society, such as war and its impacts, sexuality and relationships, health and beauty standards, and civil unrest, through the lens of ancient stories and images. With a time period spanning eight centuries of literature, artworks and culture, there is huge variety in the history, texts and visual and material culture set for study. The A Level in Classical Civilisation allows pupils to learn vital analytical and evaluative skills and how to apply these to vastly different source material, ranging from ancient epic poetry, to 5th century BC artworks, to love poems and philosophy.
