Course summary

Physics is a subject which will open the doors to many companies. It is essential if you wish to become an engineer and desirable if you want to be involved in any mechanical area. Physicists explore the fundamental nature of almost everything we know. They probe the furthest reaches of the earth to study the smallest pieces of matter. Join them to enter a world deep beneath the surface of normal human experience. The A Level route is a two-year course. There are three examinations at the end of this two-year course, covering all content and the skills acquired from the 12 required practical elements. The following topics are studied: Measurements and their errors, particles and radiation, waves, mechanics and materials, electricity, further mechanics and thermal physics, fields and nuclear physics. Then one of the following topics is selected: Astrophysics, medical physics, engineering physics, turning points in physics, electronics. Pupils are then required to complete 12 set practical tasks which will be assessed during the examinations.
