60% - Personal Investigation (Coursework), this has two elements: • A portfolio of practical personal explorations showing perceptive recording, analysis, organisation and experimentation with ideas, concepts, materials, techniques and processes, showing in-depth evaluation and refinement. Starting points are based on your research for the written element below. • A related illustrated written study, exploring genre, subject matter, techniques or historical framework of the overarching starting point or selected theme. 40% - Externally Set Task – 15 hours The Exam board sets a paper, given out in early February, offering a choice of themes, visual starting points, briefs and stimuli. Candidates will have a minimum of three weeks’ preparation, although the timed outcome is usually completed after the Easter break. This will be a practical development of your ideas in a sketchbook towards a final outcome produced in 15 hours.
