Students are required to take Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics as part of their A-level course. Component 1: Pure Mathematics 1 Weighting: 33% Length of paper: 2 hours Proof, algebra and functions, coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane, sequences and series, trigonometry, exponentials and logarithms, differentiation, integration and vectors. Component 2: Pure Mathematics 2 Weighting: 33% Length of paper: 2 hours Further proof, further algebra and functions, further coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane, further sequences and series, further trigonometry, further differentiation, further integration and numerical methods. Component 3: Statistics and Mechanics Weighting: 33% Length of paper: 2 hours Statistical sampling, large data sets, data presentation and in terpretation, probability, statistical distributions and statistical hypothesis testing. Quantities and units in mechanics, kinematics, forces, Newton’s Laws and moments.
