Course summary

This qualification gives an insight into a range of computing systems, including an understanding of the principles of programming and problem solving. The course is not just about programming or learning to use tools; instead, the emphasis is on gaining an understanding of computing and computational thinking. It also provides excellent preparation for those looking to take Computing at degree level or employment where a good knowledge of computing would be beneficial. Computer Science is a practical subject where you can apply the academic principles learned in the classroom to real-world systems. Within the course we cover a range of topics, including the principles and understanding required for programming, the hardware and software which make up a computer system and the implications of computer use. It is very much a creative subject, combining invention and excitement, and the lessons will include a combination of practical and theoretical work alongside individual research, group work and problem solving.
