Psychology

Course summary

Psychology is the scientific study of the brain and behaviour. Students will learn how ideas and theories in each area of psychology have developed; how to critically analyse evidence; and how to undertake practical research. Students will design their experimental projects, keeping in mind any necessary constraints, and by the end of the course, will be able to comprehend, analyse and form opinions on theories, and present and communicate their knowledge. By acquiring an eclectic set of skills including knowledge application and critical evaluation, psychology students are well-positioned to pursue a diverse range of degrees and careers. Psychology sits well with creative subjects and the humanities, but there is also a sizeable portion of mathematics and science within the course, as well as extended essay writing, so it is certainly not a "soft option."
