Course summary

Business looks at the theories and ideas that underlie Business decisions and the practical application of these. Students gain a practical understanding of the working of a variety of businesses and develop the ability to analyse businesses via case studies to offer interpretations of business practice and advice on how to improve the current situation. In A-Level Business, students study businesses in a variety of contexts looking at large and small businesses, global and local and service and manufacturing businesses. Throughout the course students are taught how to understand the context of decision making, the interrelated nature of business activities and the competitive environment. They also assess the factors behind decisions and what make these succeed to fail. In a changing world, students also consider the impact of technology and the effects of business on the environment and how these impact business decision-making. Students are also made aware both of day to day decisions in business and broader strategic decisions and the differing bases for both of these.
