Course summary

Students who study Drama will be fearless, knowledgeable, articulate people who can view the world from several different perspectives, understand human connection and emotion, and know-how performance is beneficial for our society. Students are taught the most relevant, powerful subject knowledge that builds throughout their time studying Drama. We aim to create students who can devise unique, engaging performances inspired by powerful practitioners, who can also think and write theoretically about the reasons behind these techniques. These application and analytical abilities are transferable skills that students can apply to their lives in higher education, apprenticeship and employment. Drama encourages students to become well-rounded, progressive, and inspiring performers who can create change through theatre. Trips to the theatre, company workshops and performing in school productions are also available throughout A-level. We encourage our students to get involved with the running of the Drama Club as well as putting themselves forward for leadership roles within productions. Course content • Sixth Form follows the Eduqas exam board and will expand upon their learning and experience, using previously learnt knowledge to craft and hone their performance skills through engaging practitioners, theatre companies and styles. • Students will experience the creation of both devised and scripted performances throughout the course, as well as gain expertise in the reinterpretation of a classic play. The course also allows students to study three set plays and create their unique visions for each, exploring their abilities as performers, directors and stage designers. • Components 1 & 2 are practical-based exams, each with its piece of written coursework that showcases the students’ understanding and knowledge of practitioner techniques and their practical exploration. • There are three set texts for students to study: Machinal, Saved and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. These are studied throughout the two-year course and form the basis of the Component 3 written paper.
