Paper 1 – Computer systems (40% of overall A level) Recall of knowledge and understanding from topics covered in component 1 such as the characteristics of contemporary processors; input, output and storage devices; software and software development; data types, data structures and algorithms; and legal, moral, cultural and ethical issues. Paper 2 – Algorithms and programming (40% of overall A level) Problem solving, analytical thinking and application of theoretical knowledge and understanding derived from component 1. Programming project (20% of overall A level) A practical portfolio detailing the design and development of a programming project chosen by the student.
