Course summary
Knowledge of the life sciences is essential for an understanding of our bodies and the way they work; the issues of world health, disease and medicine; nutrition, farming and the food chain; the interaction of genetics and environment on the development of our personalities and talents, DNA technology and the potential of the human genome project to improve our lives in the future. As a practical subject, biology requires the skills of organisation and experimental design as well as careful observation and recording. Throughout the course students will be required to think independently and apply their knowledge in unfamiliar contexts. biology at A level is essential for any student wishing to pursue a course in any of the biosciences or in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary science or physiotherapy.
