Course summary

This course is a vocational course; 70% of the work produced is in a practical, studio setting. The course is made up of three core (compulsory units) and one additional unit. The core units to be studied are: 1: Investigating practitioner’s work– You will study the work of five Dance practitioners/choreographers from a range of time periods. You will complete a controlled assessment (essay style) on a paper released by the exam board. Externally marked. 2: Developing skills and techniques for live Performance- You will develop performance skills in two different styles and perform a group piece in both. You will blog about your progress and research the role of a dance performer in the industry. Internally marked. 3: Group performance workshop- Initially you will learn how to experiment with different stimuli and to choreograph using a range of devices and techniques. You will then work in groupsof 3-7 to create a 20 minute piece of Dance that relates to a stimulus released by the exam board and write four blog styles entries during the process .The piece will then be performed to an audience in a sharing of work evening. Externally marked. The additional unit to be studied is: 12: Contemporary Dance technique- You will participate in regular classes in a range of contemporary styles to strengthen and improve your technique. You will then go on to perform a piece of contemporary Dance in a show. You will also be requiredto research and provide a report on the developments of contemporary Dance over a set time period.
