Assessment
Assessment tasks are varied and cover listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. There are 3 different exams. For Paper 1 (1h45mns), listening, reading and writing skills are assessed on the two main themes and grammar. Students are reading and responding to a variety of texts written for different purposes, drawn from a range of authentic sources and adapted as necessary. There are also two translations. Paper 2 (2 hours) is the essay writing. Students are assessed on one book or one film they have studied from the lists in the specification. All questions will require a critical response to aspects such as plot, characterisation, imagery or other stylistic features as appropriate to the work studied. Grammar is also assessed. For Paper 3 (20mns), Speaking skills are assessed on one sub-theme from the 2 main themes studied. There is also a presentation by the candidate of his/her research project and a discussion of the research project.
