Course summary

The aim of the A Level course in French is to develop further the linguistic skills of comprehension and expression, both written and spoken, in order to be able to use French and to extend further the student’s knowledge of France, its way of life, its literature and general civilisation. What do we study at A level?  Social issues & trends: evolving society in France: Changing family structures; · Education; World of work  Artistic culture in francophone countries: Music, Media—freedom of expression, Festivals and traditions  Immigration and French multicultural society; Integration and multiculturalism; · The rise of the National Front  Political culture: Occupied France, The Vichy Government, The Resistance Paper 1: listening, reading and translation. Exam: 2 hours 80 marks 40% of qual. Paper 2: written response to works and translation. Exam:2 hours 40. 120 marks. 30% of qual. Paper 3: Speaking. Exam: 26-28 mins inc 5 mins prep. 72 marks. 30% of qual.
