Course summary

Students who wish to study Physics will complete nine units across two years, with eight of those being mandatory and also studying a unit of Engineering Physics, which will complement their main course in Engineering, that will form their full A-Level in Physics. The content within the course builds upon the knowledge gained at GCSE and students will develop practical skills throughout the course, which will lead to a separately assessed practical skills endorsement. In Year 12 students will study the following topics: • Measuring and their error • Particles and radiation • Waves • Mechanics and materials • Electricity Unit Breakdown: The nine units students will study are Unit 1 – Measurement and their Errors Unit 2 – Particles and radiation Unit 3 – Waves Unit 4 – Mechanics and materials Unit 5 – Electricity Unit 6 – Further mechanics and thermal physics Unit 7 – Fields and their consequences Unit 8 – Nuclear Physics Unit 9 – Engineering physics (Option unit)
