WHY STUDY ECONOMICS? The interest rate is decreasing Is that good or bad? What will Brexit mean for interest rates? The Bank of England target for inflation is 2%, so how is it that this figure is so hard to maintain? And why is inflation important? If prices go up, why can’t we have wage increases to match? Should we care about Brexit? Why doesn't the government spend more money on education and health care? Where does the government get the money from? How do you put a cost on the environmental impact of economic activity? What has influenced Google to takeover Fitbit for $2.1bn? How do firms behave when under the threat of competition? How can we continue to meet ever increasing wants and needs from finite economic resources? Will studying Economics mean I will earn more money? If you are interested in discovering the answers to these and many more questions, then A Level Economics is for you. During the course of study, you will be encouraged to develop a critical approach to economic models and methods of enquiry. You will acquire a good knowledge of trends and developments in the economy which have taken place over the past fifteen years and also have an awareness of earlier events where this helps to give recent developments a longer term perspective. WHAT’S COVERED? The course covers the breadth of microeconomics and macroeconomics. You will learn about a range of topics including price determination in a competitive market, understanding effective production and how it relates to cost and revenue and the International economy FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES Did you know: Economics graduates, on average, earn more than graduates of any other subject? You will develop transferable skills and knowledge, valuable in whatever future career you choose. Many aspiring Medics and Engineers choose Economics as a fourth subject. A Level Economics can provide a platform to a wide range of lucrative careers, including: investment banking, accountancy, law and business.
