Course summary

This qualification is designed to provide learners with a good introduction to the sector with a focus on performance including musical skills development and professional practice. When taken alongside other Level 3 qualifications, it is ideal for learners wishing to progress to Higher Education. The BTEC level 3 Extended Certificate in Music Performance develops students’ performing skills over a two year period. Due to the structure of the course, students must complete the 2 year course to gain a qualification; they will not get any qualification after studying it for one year, although it may be possible to gain a qualification equivalent to half an A level after one year (tbc). Students will study (among other areas) many different performing styles, how to practice effectively, developing confidence and how to achieve a successful performance. Students also develop their writing skills and their ability to keep an accurate log of their musical activities. Students complete three mandatory units: Unit 1: Practical Music Theory and Harmony (90GLH) Unit 2: Professional Practice in the Music Industry (90GLH) Unit 3: Ensemble Music Performance (120GLH) Unit 5: Music Performance Session Styles (60GLH)
