The practical criteria for A Level Dance comprises a solo performance and a performance in a quartet. Both of these performances must be based on a study of a professional dance work or choreographer. The choreographic element of the course is creating a group choreography for between 3 and 5 dancers to a given stimulus by the exam board. The theoretical element of the course is an exam paper which asks questions on professional work studied and styles studied. These styles are compulsory, set by the exam board and are ballet, jazz and contemporary dance. The practical and theory elements are equally weighted at 50% each.
