David Nieper Academy Sixth Form Transition Days

Monday 30th June – Tuesday 1st July

We are very pleased that you have secured a place at the David Nieper Academy Sixth

Form for September 2025. In order to allow you to spend some time in our Sixth Form, meet

other students, your tutors and prepare for the start of your A-level or BTEC courses we

would like you to attend our transition days. We aim to make the transition between your

GCSE’s and A-level/BTEC’s as seamless as possible so we can start the courses in

September swiftly.

The transition days will include preparation lessons for your choices with subject teachers,

an introduction into Post-16 education, developing your understanding of employer

engagement and transition work/reading to be completed prior to starting your new courses.

There will also be the option to try different courses if you are still undecided.

Please arrive at the academy for 8.30am on both days. You will finish by 3pm. You may

wear non-school uniform, and lunch will be available from the school canteen. Alternatively,

you may choose to bring a packed lunch. You will not be allowed to leave site during the

day.

Please seek parental consent via ParentPay to confirm your attendance so that we can

make the necessary arrangements for your time with us.

Starting at 5:00pm, our program includes:
* An Introduction from our Head of School
* Opportunity to look round our facilities including our brand new work shops
* Learn more about each pathway from the course leader
* A chance to speak with our current students about what day to day life is like at the UTC and how they are enjoying their T Level so far
* A chance to speak with Alumni on how the UTC helped them secure their dream apprenticeship

We invite you and your child to attend the Year 11 IB Options Evening; an information and workshop event to support every Year 11 TGS student make confident IB Diploma Subject choices that are aligned with their future aspirations.  For example, how to build the best programme for your child if they wish to go on to study Law, Engineering, Journalism or Medicine (including how to understand university entry requirements). 

We know many students will still be unsure about their post TGS pathways at this point; guidance will be provided about how to build the optimum programme for your child if this applies to them. 

One ticket admits 2 people and students are encouraged to attend with one parent - maximum attendees is 2 (with the exception of siblings permitted, if required) 

After attending the event you and your child will be able to:

• Plan the best subject combination for them
• Understand the reasons for the choices being made
• Use the completed worksheet to support their Guidance Meeting discussion in January
  
  Parking: We are anticipating no access via Baltic Road as it is currently closed due to roadworks. This will make any turning problematic and congestion very likely.  Limited parking will be available on site on a first come first served basis and we anticipate the car park will be full before 6pm. Please email office@tgs.kent.sch.uk if you require a blue badge space. The surrounding roads are subject to parking restrictions and we encourage you to park away from the school site and arrive on foot.  To allow enough transfer time it takes approximately 15 minutes to walk from the town centre car parks.
  
   

The Sixth Form team at CCS warmly welcome all students who applied to join us in September to Induction Day on Monday 24th June 2024. There will be four separate taster sessions on the day, which will enable you to book a taster lesson for each of your chosen subjects (3 + your reserve). Please ensure you only select one subject, per session.

Students are to arrive by 8.40am on their chosen induction day, as they will need to register in the Sixth Form Centre. Students will depart CCS at 3:20pm.

Students should attend taster sessions for all subjects chosen and at least one reserve subject, if possible. We have a maximum capacity on each day and for each taster session, so we encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment, as sessions will become unavailable once full.

Dress will be business wear (smart shirt/no blue denim). Please bring either a packed lunch and drink or our Sixth Form café will be open with food/drink choices which can be purchased with cash or card. Students will be allowed to leave site at lunchtime (12:40pm-1:40pm)
