Aim high to achieve the best you can. Throughout my time at the New Sixth, extra support and systems have allowed me to achieve above and beyond my expectations, whilst also supporting my aspirations in areas of personal interest. The support has been uniquely personal. Career and UCAS sessions throughout both years have helped me find future pathways I am genuinely passionate about, with the encouragement from staff to ‘aim high’ helping me achieve offers I’m truly proud of. Opportunities have allowed me to explore creative options I never would’ve considered otherwise. The academic culture is extremely stimulating. You feel self-motivated to achieve the best you can, reflected in the excellent results of the school. Within the arts, the variety and flexibility of opportunities have allowed me to explore creative options I never would’ve considered otherwise, the natural progression of responsibility within the department helping encourage personal development.

Laying the foundations for your future career. Being part of the Student Senior Leadership team helped me realise the importance of taking responsibility. As a role model for younger students, I had to ensure I was visible and responsible in carrying out my duties. Listening to younger students is also vital and I made sure that I talked to the lower years on a regular basis and took their ideas for fun events, activities and school improvements on board. This role not only helped me to hone my leadership and communication skills but also fostered a deeper sense of collaboration purpose and within the school community.

Everyone is treated with kindness and respect. During my time at St Gregory’s and the New Sixth, I have grown immensely as a person. I have been continuously provided with, and have also created, opportunities to engage with the school community and be an active member of society. Throughout my time at the New Sixth, I have helped Year 7 students develop their reading skills and supported younger students in maths classes. This experience has not only allowed me to form relationships with a wide range of students but has also helped me understand others better and become a role model for younger students.

Everyone is valued as a member of the community. Respect at the New Sixth isn’t just about following rules or showing courtesy; it’s about recognising the inherent worth and dignity of every individual. It’s seen in the way students support one another, the way teachers listen attentively to their students’ requests, and the way all staff members go above and beyond to ensure everyone feels valued and included. I have always been greeted by everyone at the New Sixth with warmth, acceptance, and a profound sense of respect. Everybody is a valued member of the community here.

I chose to pursue apprenticeships because there are so many benefits. Firstly, I can stay at home so I don't need a maintenance loan. My student debts are paid by the company, so I don't need to apply for student finance. I will get on-the-job experience whilst studying for my degree so, when it finishes, I will be much more employable. On top of all that, I'll be paid a salary which frees up my time significantly since my job is my education. My free time will be mine to use as I please. While I won't get the traditional university experience of living away from home and the associated social life, the work experience I will have will jumpstart my career which is a much more interesting offer to me.

Just started appreticeship.
