Welcome Message

Welcome to our Sixth Form. We are so proud of the community we serve because it is the family feel that makes our Sixth form so special.  We are now one of the biggest post 16 providers in Coventry and continue to be oversubscribed year on year. We are very proud of our provision which is underpinned by our curriculum principles; Immersion, Inclusion and Ambition.

We are immensely proud of our broad curriculum offering over 30 different courses, both academic and vocational.  This allows us to offer students a great degree of flexibility when choosing their post 16 options with many students opting for a combination of both academic and vocational subjects.

We have a large, well established and experienced pastoral team who have years of experience in supporting students both academically and pastorally.

Sidney Stringer Academy are leaders in the use of technology; we believe that the best preparation we can do is to support our learners for the world of work. Students in post 16 have the opportunity to purchase or borrow a one to one device through their 2 years of study. The use of the google suite is embedded; we expect students to have and use a device effectively as this is preparation for what is to come in the world of work.

In September 2018 we opened our purpose built 16+ Study Centre to accommodate our ever growing sixth form. This Centre iis for the sole use of out 16+ students with purpose built facilities include classrooms equipped with computers, a large open space set up for private study, a purpose built cafe and toilets.

Our overall aim is to prepare you for the world beyond formal education  by  ensuring that you are the best equipped academically and also that you leave us as a well-rounded individual with a skill-set that will give you the best opportunity to succeed in the outside world; we place equal value on academic outcomes and personal and character development.

FAQs

How do I apply for 16+

All Yr 11 Sidney Stringer students must use the email sent to their school email on the 16th December 2024. Within this email there was a link which they must use to apply. All external students must set up an application using the link on our website. All applications must be fully completed and submitted in order for us to consider your application.

When will I have my interview

Sidney Stringer students will be interview from the 20th January 2025 until the 31st January 2025. Interviews for external students are being held on the 2nd, 3rd and 9th of April 2025. You will receive an email confirming your date and time. Please note that all interviews will be held after the school day and you will only be requested to attend one of the dates.

I cannot select the subjects that I want to study

The subjects available to you are those that you meet the entry for based on your predicted/current work at grades. We cannot consider you for subjects if you do not meet the entry requirements for. Please also note that you are only able to select one subject per block, therefore, this may also prevent you from selecting a subject

Who will complete my reference

References for Sidney Stringer students will be completed within school. All external students must put their Head of Year or tutor as their referee. Our reference request will then be emailed to them once your application has been fully completed and submitted.. We can only accept references from schools.

How many subjects can I study?

You must select at least 3 subjects. Depending on your grades, some students are able to select a fourth subject from those listed in bock E.

Why can I not complete my application

All sections of your application must be fully completed to enable you to submit it. External students must upload evidence of their current predicted/working at grades. This can be a current report but must be on school headed paper.

Why was my application not accepted

Each year we receive a large number of applications, therefore, we are not able to accept all applications. Applications may be rejected due to students not meeting the entry requirements of their subjects, the application not being fully completed and submitted by the deadline, students not attending their interview.

What happens if I miss the deadline date

Due to the high number of applications we receive, we are not able to accept applications after the deadline.

Why was I not offered my subjects

When looking at students subject choices, we have to ensure that students securely meet the entry requirements and there are spaces available on courses. In some cases we can offer alternative subjects, however, this would be dependent on grades and spaces on courses.

When will I know if I have been accepted

All students will receive an email after their interview to confirm whether we are able to offer them a conditional place. This conditional offer is based on students meeting the entry requirements for their subjects and attending our Induction week. Unfortunately, if students do not attend our Induction Week our offer will be withdrawn

Can I change my subjects

Once your application has been submitted, you will not be able to change your subjects. If you are called for an interview, we can discuss subject changes at that point. Any changes will be subject to students meeting the entry requirements and spaces being available on courses. It is not possible to change subjects once conditional offers have been made.

How will I be kept up to date with the progress of my application

Emails will be sent to keep you updated with the progress of your application. Therefore, it is vital that you check your emails on a regular basis. The email address that we will use is the one linked to your application when it is set up.

I cannot remember my username/password

Your username is the email address used to set up your application and your password is the one created when your application was set up.

Who should I contact if I need help with completing my application

Any queries should be emailed to Mrs Taylor (ttaylor.staff@sidneystringeracademy.org.uk). Alternatively, you call the 16+ office on 02476 251756 ext 2101
