Before I started at Carlton Academy Sixth Form, I didn’t have any ideas about what or where I wanted to study. I knew I was interested in higher education, but Oxbridge wasn’t on my radar. The teachers and staff at TCA helped me unlock my potential and show that Oxbridge was achievable. They took us on a trip to both Oxford and Cambridge in year 12 and helped familiarise us with the process. However, it was the continued support throughout the process which really made a difference: They organised 1 on 1 support sessions, interview practice and personal statement workshops really made me a competitive candidate.

I will always be grateful to all my teachers, and particularly the history department for all their support which went above and beyond to tailor to my needs. This same personal support is offered to everyone, whether they’re looking to progress onto higher education or not which is what, in my opinion, make The Carlton Academy Sixth Form special.

My Oxford journey began with a mock biochemistry tutorial and a tour of a college on a school trip in Year 11. While the thought of applying to Oxford appeared daunting and inaccessible to a non private school student at the time the Carlton Academy helped dispel any stereotypes and make the process an exciting one.

The dedication of the Sixth Form staff in ensuring I was prepared, calm and assured during my application is something I will cherish. Without The Carlton Academy Sixth Form, and their vital support, I would never have thought I would be going to the same college I once toured as a hopeful Oxford student.
