FAQs
Burntwood Sixth Form is an aspirational community that supports all students to excel and achieve their very best. We encourage all students to make thoughtful and informed decisions about their future and work closely with universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, to provide students with the necessary knowledge to make competitive applications. Our annual Oxford University trip allows students from all background to gain an insight into what life at one of the world's most prestigious universities has to offer; the trip includes a tour of one of Oxford's colleges, a series of lectures and a Q&A with current Oxford students and a member of their admissions team. Building on this experience, our qualified Careers Adviser works closely with potential applicants to ensure they gain access to relevant super-curricular experiences to enrich their application. Students are assigned experiences subject specialists who support them in crafting outstanding applications, preparing for entrance exams and fine-tuning their interview techniques with mock interviews. Our enrichment and super-curricular programme, in addition to students access to Unifrog, provides students with ample opportunities to build the necessary skills and experiences to make competitive applications to Oxbridge. Furthermore, having fostered excellent relationships with our alumni, we utilise previous Burntwood Students who have gained entrance to Oxbridge to support prospective Oxbridge students.
At Burntwood Sixth Form we understand the importance of extra-curricular, enrichment and super-curricular opportunities in nurturing students and supporting them to become confident, well-rounded and successful as they take on the challenges beyond Sixth Form. All students participate in an enrichment programme that offers the students to develop key skills and experiences outside of the classroom; this programme includes opportunities to participate in sports, debate clubs, mindfulness activities, leadership opportunities and much more. In addition to enrichment opportunities, we offer a robust and aspirational careers programme, exposing all students to a wide breadth of different professional industries. Weekly careers talks from a range of professions, including: medicine, law, finance, marketing, advertising, education and many more, allows all students to gain a greater insight into these professions and to understand the journey it takes to get there. To support students exposure to a range of industries, all students are encouraged to participate in work experiences opportunities and the Sixth Form works in partnership with the Early Careers Foundation, which provides professional mentoring for students as they begin to consider their own career path. Furthermore, all Sixth Form students have access to our qualified Careers Adviser who offers 1:1 unbiased careers advice and guidance. Our careers programme meets all of the Gatsby benchmarks and has supported students successfully securing apprenticeships at companies such as: Amazon, PwC, Bloomberg, KPMG, Grant Thornton and Accenture, amongst many more.
