Course summary

We have chosen the OCR A-Level qualification as we feel the breadth of the units offers a stimulating and varied course of study, offering an enjoyable learning experience that prepares you for university. The assessment is predominately essay-based and you’ll look at areas on Britain, a world study and coursework which is assessed on a subject of your choosing, therefore it is essential to be reading around that subject in your own time. You’ll also be given a specific reading and viewing pack for each section of the course. The Units are as follows: Unit 1 – Britain 1930–1997, with a document section on Winston Churchill before and during WWII. Unit 2 – EITHER The USA in the 19th Century: Westward expansion and Civil War 1803–c.1890 OR Russia 1891 to 1941 Unit 3 – Popular Culture and the Witchcraze of the 16th and 17th Centuries Unit 4 – Coursework Outside of the classroom, there are several historical trips within the UK and abroad. There is also the opportunity to become a History Prefect, Contribute to HistSoc, the History Society and magazine, and join one of the many societies the school has to offer and act as a mentor to younger students in the school.
