Design and Technology (Product Design)

Course summary

Product Design is one of the few 100% coursework subjects and this gives students the opportunity to get involved in the designing, creating and solving of problems in order to meet functional and aesthetic needs. The emphasis is on learning how and why products are designed. Students will be fine tuning their hand sketching skills alongside CAD/CAM skills to produce creative and innovative products. There will be the opportunity to make and model products in a variety of materials building on the skills learnt at GCSE. Topics covered will include; designers and design movements, environmental design, jewellery/body adornment and architectural design.
