Classical Greek

Course summary

The study of Classical Greek enables students to explore the language and literature of the ancient Greeks, informing and enhancing their understanding of ancient and modern culture and civilisation. Through the course of their studies, students gain an intuitive and precise command of grammar which can be applied to the understanding of any given language and to linguistics more broadly. The OCR A Level Classical Greek course equips students with the language skills necessary to read literary texts, both prose and verse, in the original Greek. Students consequently develop an interest in, and appreciation for, the literary, historical and cultural features of the ancient world in addition to acquiring the literary skills necessary to read Greek literature with attention to literary techniques, styles and genres.
