Assessment

There are four components to the assessment: • Recording - close mic record one piece of contemporary music from a list of ten songs issued by the exam board; a minimum of five instruments and vocals will be recorded. • Technology-based composition - one composition chosen from three briefs; synthesis and sampling/audio manipulation and creative effects must be included. • Listening and analysing - written examination including questions based on listening to two unfamiliar commercial recordings and two essay questions. • Producing and analysing - practical and written examination, including questions and practical tasks relating to audio and MIDI materials provided and one essay.
